Tuan Huy Bui and Hannah Chazin are getting married.

June 15th, 2024

Sydney, Australia

The ceremony will start at 11 am at Cuong and Oanh’s house at 28 Mintaro Ave, Strathfield, NSW 2135

The reception to follow will be at 6pm at the Highline Event Venue at 462 Chapel Road, Bankstown, NSW 2200 (level 3)

The Ceremony

The Ceremony will be a traditional Vietnamese wedding ceremony. Tuan and his side of the family will form a procession and parade to Hannah’s family house, bearing gifts (Cuong and Oanh Bui have graciously allowed their house to act as the Chazin house for the purpose of this ceremony). Greetings will be exchanged between representatives of each family, and Hannah at this point will enter the room. Tuan and Hannah will pray to their ancestors, present jewelry to each other, and finally, serve tea to their elders.

If you wish, you may wear áo dài for this portion, though it is not required; semi-formal attire will work admirably.

The Reception

The reception venue is at the Highline Event Venue.

Since the ceremony and reception are separate locations, you can use this opportunity to change outfits if you like; the dress code remains semi-formal, but you may change out of your áo dài if you were wearing one into something easier to dance in!

Please enjoy these photos of us variously acting romantic and acting the fool over the years with their friends and family.

Your burning questions answered:

Are my kids invited?

Yes! We just couldn’t fit everyone’s names on the envelope.

What is going on with that artwork on the invitation?

The invitation uses part of Blossom Gatherer II by Raqib Shaw, a painting that we both love. To us, it symbolizes love, birth, death, rebirth, the beauty and cruelty inherent in the world, and the duality of existence as part of the cycle of life. It is on view at the Art Gallery NSW, and you can go visit it while you are in Sydney if you like!

Accommodations:

The ceremony and reception are located near Strathfield; however, if you are coming in from out of t own and are planning a longer trip in Sydney, it makes sense to stay where the cool stuff is; thus, we recommend staying near Sydney center and taking a taxi or driving out to Strathfield for the wedding.

Darcy’s Hotel is near Strathfield and Bankstown if you wish to stay near the wedding locations:

In downtown Sydney, the Aiden Darling Harbour is a centrally-located four-star modern hotel with lovely reviews:

And not too far away is the five-star Albion hotel, a lovely boutique that blends a historic exterior with a well-designed updated interior:

Traveling to Sydney:

For the Americans, remember that Sydney is in a time zone seven hours different than Chicago (six for Denver, eight for New York), so the jetlag will be significant - try to arrive two days early so your body has time to adjust.

So you really want an áo dài:

For ladies, and men, these can be purchased and tailored from a Vietnamese tailor near you. These are made of silk and are very cool (keep in mind that Sydney will be midwinter on our wedding date, so a light coat is recommended in case it is breezy or cool when getting to or leaving the ceremony location). The sky is the limit when it comes to design and color, so have fun picking out your fabric of choice! Traditionally, the bride wears a bright red one and the groom wears a bright blue one; thus, avoid choosing an áo dài that is entirely scarlet or royal blue.

Registry:

Tuan and Hannah do not have a traditional gift registry; we live in a very small Manhattan apartment and therefore live a very stuff-free life. However, if you feel so moved, we do encourage you to donate to these charities on our behalf:
